The CIESIN World Data Center

Description

The CIESIN World Data Center is a portal, hosted by NASA’s Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), which provides access to a wide range of global data, associated documentation, and visualization and analysis tools, and to the community of experts on global data.

Contains a very large number of different datasets many of which are open.

Some caution should be taken here as this is a portal rather than a single dataset. However most of the datasets listed appear to be open (both in access and license terms).
